Starting Our Vegetable Garden... Indoors

Our mud/laundry room is doing quadruple duty these days as we've added "greenhouse" and "baby animal barn" (for our ducklings and chicks) to its job description. I'll post pictures of the adorable ducklings and chicks, and their three handsome caretakers soon. ;) But today, I thought I'd share how we are starting our vegetable garden indoors...

Farmhouse Style Entertaining...

Farmhouse style and entertaining are a natural fit...

Relaxed and welcoming, a farmhouse gathering is about enjoying time with family and friends, and putting guests at ease. I picture long farmhouse tables with mismatched chairs and weathered benches. String lights, and fresh herbs and flowers in simple pitchers and jars. Plenty of food to go around, laughter and conversation between friends...

Sundays at Home #155

Hi Friends! It's nice to be back with you for Sundays at Home, after taking last week off to celebrate Easter. I hope you had a blessed holiday, and were able to eat your fair share of hard boiled eggs and chocolate rabbits. ;)

Little Farmstead on Instagram...

Hi Friends ~ I hope your week is going well!

Our boys are on spring break but I wanted to pop in and share some images from our Instagram feed. I post almost daily on Instagram (sometimes a couple of times per day if I'm really feeling inspired ;). If you're not yet following along on Instagram, I'd love to have you join me here

From time-to-time, I also love featuring people I follow. There really are so many talented people with unique ideas out there! If I can help you find some new sources for inspiration, I am happy to do that.

Below are some images from our home, taken over the last 18 months or so.

Thank you so much for stopping by today!

Spring At Our Farmhouse (A Roundup!)

Hi Friends!

I hope you are doing well and enjoying this week before Easter. Our house has been humming with activity (thus a quieter than usual blog). With several school activities, baseball games, and getting ready for Easter, typing at the computer has turned into somewhat of a luxury. (I'm sure you can relate!)

So today I thought I'd recap some of our top spring posts just in case you missed them...

(Aren't the eggs pictured below so calming and lovely? I thought so too. We made them last year, using all natural homemade egg dyes. So imagine my surprise when our boys voted on returning back to the store-bought capsule dyes this year! Apparently they prefer the saturated colors and bold designs the kits offer. So no, we won't be boiling beets and blueberries this year like little mad scientists. After all, this tradition is for the kids. Egg stickers, crayons and all. :)

Sundays at Home #154

Welcome to Sundays at Home!

Wow, we are just one week away from Easter. I remember growing up in California, my mom would say, "It's always sunny on Easter!" Well, we'll see if that holds true here in Seattle this year, where our skies have been especially dark and dreary. Thank you for linking up your posts. They are a welcome distraction from the not-so-Eastery-skies!

I hope the sun is shining on you during this special season - whether literally, or in your heart... (Preferably both! :)

Our Mudroom Bench (And a tip to make painting so much easier!)

Happy Weekend!

Just a quick post today to share our mudroom bench/coat rack. When I found it on Craigslist a few years ago, it was a dark, army green color. I painted it white, but it really needed another coat of paint. Instead, it got lots of coats thrown at it (and backpacks too)! This past week, I finally got around to painting this little workhorse of a bench...

Whites, Woods and Greenery...

I hope your week is going well...

Even though it's a rainy, gray Seattle day, spring is in the air! I've made just a few little changes around our farmhouse that I thought I'd share. It's only natural to nest in Spring - don't you think?

Our family room rug had seen better days, and so our dogs are now enjoying it on the back covered porch. I'm liking the bare wood floors for a change, or until I find the perfect rug for this room. ;) I'm still loving our grain sack pillows. They add texture and character to any space, in my humble opinion. If you are in the market for some grain sacks or grain sack pillows, I posted on the best sources I've found here.

Sundays at Home #153

Happy April and welcome to Sundays at Home!

This is the time of year when the garden begins changing daily, and I start stalking my favorite plants on our property - the lilacs, peonies, and hydrangeas. Though still far from having blooms, they have come "back to life" this week and developed little leaves.

Observing and celebrating the changing of seasons is one of the simple pleasures in life that I have come to enjoy. It points me to me to the wonders of our Creator, His mercies that are new every morning, and the hope that each new season brings.

I'm so happy you've joined us today!

A Weathered Wheelbarrow and Edible Nests...

The five of us were driving home from our oldest son's basketball tournament on the other side of the state when we came across a favorite mile marker of mine. About 90 minutes from our house, there's a cute, yet large, old-fashioned fruit market. The fruit market takes up the first floor of the old building and the top two floors are...wait for it... an antique co-op! No one in our car would even glance in its direction on the way to the tournament, but on the way home, I thought I had a shot. And when our youngest needed to make a stop himself, I was golden...
